Afghanistan to play first ODI against Pakistan in Feb 2012

Afghanistan will play their first ODI against a Test playing country when they meet Pakistan in Sharjah on Feb 10. The game will take place 3 days before the initial game of the limited-overs leg of Pakistan’s ‘home’ series against England in the UAE. Afghanistan played India and South Africa during the World T20 2010, but in ODIs they’ve only faced Associate and Affiliate sides.

Pakistan and Afghanistan’s cricketing associations have developed over 2011. In May, Afghanistan became the initial international side to tour Pakistan since the strike on Sri Lanka’s squad bus in March 2009. They played 3 50 over games against Pakistan A. There’s also an effort to include Afghanistan in Pakistan’s regional T20 contest but that didn’t materialise.

Cricket was made trendy in Afghanistan by refugees who spent yrs residing in Pakistan when Soviet soldiers occupied their country in 1979. Afghanistan cricket has developed extremely in the last 3 years. In 09, they finished 5th in the World Cup Qualifiers and received ODI position later in the yr. In 2010, they won the qualifying contest for the World T20, providing them the chance to play in the major contest, and also won the Intercontinental Cup, a first-class contest. They’re presently 9th on the ICC ratings for T20 sides.
