The 2002 hit and run case relating to Salman Khan that has been on for a long time is likely to end with a Mumbai sessions court announcing the verdict later today. The court will give the judgment in the appeal registered by Salman Khan against a magistrate`s order in the 2002 hit-and-run case.
This comes post the actor had appealed against the magistrate`s order directing a retrial of the case under the strict charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Sessions court judge UB Hejib will deliver his judgment in the matter today. The new charge, under Section 304 (III) of the Indian Penal Code, would attract a maximum prison term of Ten years.
Salman Khan was earlier tried by a magistrate under the lesser charge of causing death by careless (Section 304A of IPC), that provides for a maximum punishment of 2 years in prison.
