Salman Khan, who is facing trial for his 2002 hit and run case, recently approached the court to ask for a fresh trial before the Sessions Court.
Salman Khan’s lawyer has said that a fresh trial is needed as the proof produced earlier before a magistrate should be discarded as Khan is now facing a more dangerous charge of culpable homicide not amounting to killing. The prosecution however opposed this step and said that this was an effort to delay the trial. The judge has reserved his order till December 5 on the matter.
On July 24, a Sessions court had framed allegations against Salman Khan for culpable homicide for which he may face a prison term of up to 10 years. Earlier, he was tried by a magistrate for rash and irresponsible driving, which attracts a two-year prison term.
