A day back, there had been reports that Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan’s Padma Shri award might be taken away as he was charged by a court in a case of attack. However, it looks that the Home Ministry has no aims of taking away the honour conferred on the Nawab.
Sources allege that the home ministry on Thursday turned down any move to strip actor Saif Ali Khan of his Padma Shri award, conferred on him in 2010. It’s also been said that the home ministry’s respondent to the RTI registered by S C Agarwal to know the status of his own complaint, saying that the issue is ‘under examination’, is a routine response to any issue that relates to a pending complaint.
A govt official was quoted saying that it may not be fair to strip a person just because he is charged in a case relating to a minor scuffle. In 2012, Saif Ali Khan was charged with attacking a South Africa-based business person and his father-in-law at the Taj hotel in Colaba, Mumbai, following an altercation. After a case of attack was registered against him, the allegations were framed against him by a Mumbai court in February this year.
