Shahrukh Khan’s Ra.One could make a record at the box office, say trade gurus who estimate that the opening day collections could touch Rs 22 crore. “The Hindi version will receive around Rs 20 crore, and if one adds the collections of the Telugu and Tamil versions, it will increase to Rs 22 crore,” says industry expert Taran Adarsh.
The Rs 145-crore movie was launched on Wednesday in 3,200 screens across India . Each and every multiplex has about 18 shows per day; for this reason alone, the collections should be really important. “The news that ticket charges are up to 20% from the normal charge will also add to the collections,” says Vishal Anand, head of operations, Fun Cinema. “One more issue which works in Ra.One’s favour is that it has been launched at a moment when there’re 4 straight vacations in several areas of the country.”
Ra.One is ready to develop cinematic history with record box office collection. Salman Khan’s Bodyguard, which was launched in 2,700 screens across India, was the previous movie to make a record opening day collection of Rs 21 crore.
“I am unsure if Ra. One will defeat Bodyguard’s opening day collections, but it will break Bodyguard’s record in 5 days,” says Delhi-UP distributor Sanjay Ghai of Mukta Arts.
“Bodyguard collected about Rs 80 crore in the 1st 5 days – my estimation is that Ra.One will earn between Rs 90 crore and Rs 100 crore.”
