Veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar skipped her 85th birthday celebrations due to ill health on Sunday. She apologized for not attending her birthday event as she was not feeling well.
The 85-year-old was feeling sorry for Sachin Tendulkar, who had come all the way to felicitate her. Her sister Usha Mangeshkar was felicitated on her behalf instead of Lata.
The event was organized by music event organization Hridayesh Arts at the Shanmukhananda Auditorium, King’s Circle. Mr. Tendulkar was the chief guest of the occasion.
The event was momentous as Hridaynath Mangeshkar, younger brother of Lata, has also completed 60 years of his music career.
The legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar started her career in 1943 with the song “Mata ek sapoot ki duniya badal de tu” for Marathi movie “Gajaabhaau”. She was 13 at that time.
She went on to record music for over 1000 films in 36 languages. She has sung many evergreen bhajans, ghazals and other classical songs including Kahi Deep Jale Kahi Dil, Aaja Re Pardesi, Beeti Na Bitaai Raina, Naino Main Badra and Tere Binda Zindagi Se.
