Here is one more Bollywood filmmaker who landed in trouble with the Service Tax Department after Samir Karnik. Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is the next on the list for service tax evasion. The news is that, Anurag will now have to return to Mumbai, leaving the shoot of his forthcoming movie Bombay Velvet in Sri Lanka by Sept. 3.
Reportedly, a team from the Service Tax Department completed a search at the filmmaker’s Yari road office in Mumbai in August and later charged him responsible for service tax evasion of Rs. 55 lakh. According to this, the director/producer was asked to appear before the Service Tax Department on August 22, but he failed to do so and instead, sent his representatives to handle the issue. Hence, his accounts were sealed and now Anurag has asked for some time till Sept. 3.
Deputy Commissioner of Service Tax Department, Sameer Wankhede also said that a case has been booked against Anurag Kashyap and they’re investigating further into this issue. With all the ongoing legal troubles, Anurag’s movie Bombay Velvet might also receive a problem.
