To provide the security for smooth release of the upcoming film Zanjeer, the Andhra Pradesh High Court directed the police to provide security for the screening of the film and its Telugu version Toofan.
The film is starring Ram Charan Teja, the son of Union Tourism Minister K. Chiranjeevi. The court asked the director general of police to provide necessary security to theatres screening the two movies throughout the country from Friday, September 6.
Zanjeer and its Telugu version Toofan, is starring Priyanka Chopra and Ram Charan Teja as lead. The film is set to be released across the state, currently witnessing political turmoil over the decision to carve out separate Telangana state.
The Reliance Big Entertainment Private Limited had moved the court seeking directions to the Govt. to take necessary steps for smooth screening of the films in view of threats from some quarters. It informed the court that it has invested several crores to produce, distribute and market the films and had signed contracts with several theaters for screening.
Reportedly, some groups in Seemandhra (coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema) have threatened to disrupt screening of the films to protest what they call Chiranjeevi’s failure to oppose strongly the proposed bifurcation of the state.
The films may also face problems in Telangana due to some groups alleged that Chiranjeevi was trying to stall the formation of a separate state. Previously, his brother Pawan Kalyan had to face the ire of pro-Telangana groups for the films.
